about

Before tracking this EP, I previously knew Paul Magurany as the guitarist of a local band and a good acquaintance. So when he brought up the idea of recording at his studio, it initially started as a short collaboration to help get his name out there. (P.S. I still encourage everyone to check out P/B Recording on Facebook.)

However, from the time spent at P/B Recording to the series of text messages outside of it, I quickly got to know more about Paul. Not only is he still an amazing guitarist, producer, and self-described "sound snob". At this point forward, he's also a cherished friend, musical brother, and overall human being. The social chemistry and clear communication that grew between producer and musician played a significant role during those three productive days in the studio.

As for the songs themselves, I've always imagined these songs to have a tastier rock flavor to them. Plus, I'm super grateful that my friend Adam took time out of his schedule to record some infectious bass lines himself (on all three tracks). Not to mention, Paul reached out on a limb to add his own spicy guitar licks & solos. Overall, the entire recording process was unforgettable, and I left on the last day of recording feeling ecstatic for the final release.

Track Name: Wiser Man
I’ve been traveling down a wider road with less reason
I’ve been going down a smoother path of more consistent seasons
It’s the higher end of the fork in the trail where I’ve committed treason

Everybody’s going eighty on a seventy-mile highway
All the politics a-buzzin’ makes me wanna drive sideways
And the happily ever afters afterwards all look the same to me

I should’ve listened to Robert Frost
When he told me to take the other route
I should’ve known better than to settle for mediocrity,
Where everything seems so loud
But at least with that in mind, I can be the wiser man now
Track Name: Wealth & Waste
Who wants to hear another sad song playing on the radio?
Who likes the feeling of letting someone special go?
Who wants to fuss about the profits gained from starting wars?
Who need their baggage thrown out an open door?

What paranoia has taken over my scrambled mind?
What sort of secrets need to be kept away from the rest of mankind?
What type of birds need to tweet about the honest news?
What kind of Catcher in the Rye croons the blues?

No need to set the bar that high if our attitudes are way down low
One gesture, fleetingly, will set off one big magic show
Don’t take the vitamins and tabloids that encourage pain
Let it wash away in the rain

Instead of justifying garbage shown on live TV?
Instead of testifying about people not worth anyone’s Tweets?
Instead of voyaging from one bandwagon to the next
Let’s stick to what our guts tell us and put it to the test

No need to set the bar that high if our attitudes are way down low
One gesture fleetingly will set off one big magic show
Don’t take the vitamins and tabloids that encourage pain
Let it wash away in the rain
Track Name: Please Listen (2.0)
I can’t pursue you; you’ve got to take the reigns yourself
I won’t pursue you; I’ll be sitting right back on the shelf
But please consider that walking down that path won’t get you help
And please remember:
you can overcome what’s turning you to someone else

Just like your ex-girlfriend or every model on TV
It’ll never go away if you keep on lending offerings
I’m just a bunch of words that tell some not-so-subtle truths
But then the choice was yours, so now the jokes on you

Facing your back, behind cellar doors
Please listen to these last words I say
Covering your ears, trapped in the corner
Please listen before it’s too late

The friends that left you could come back if you made the call
I know it’s been a while since you really even cared at all
You leave an anchor to give you pain to numb the blame
And keep you head geared sideways as you face no shame

Facing your back, behind cellar doors
Please listen to these last words I say
Covering your ears, trapped in the corner
Please listen before it’s too late

The objects used you for the sake of commercial gain
The smoke inhaled you, left you dangling sideways in a haze
I’m just a bunch of words that tell some not-so-subtle truths
But please remember of the loved ones that still care for you

Facing your back, behind cellar doors
Please listen to these last words I say
Covering your ears, trapped in the corner
Please listen before it’s too late
